HOLIDAY DATE

The Day of Indigenous Resistance is a holiday and public holiday on October 12 in Venezuela, which coincides with Columbus Day is celebrated in other nations of Latin America and the Day of National Holiday in Spain. The holiday originally commemorated the discovery of America by Cristóbal Colon, enacted during the government of Juan Vicente Gomez as a national holiday. But this fact was not liked by some politicians and thinkers of the Venezuelan left, they felt that the festival extolled colonialism at the expense of culture and values of indigenous Amerindians.
